The National Women’s Leader of the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) party, Selwina Francis has called on women to apply for key positions in the party.

She made this call on Saturday at a women’s meeting held over the weekend at the party headquarters in Freetown.

Madam Selwina Francis said the purpose of the meeting was to encourage women in the party to apply for key positions, adding that application is still open. She said women are the backbone to every development.

She indicated that, the more women they have in the political race, the better the politics in this nation.

She said they are trying to complete all the lower level elections in the country in February before they set a date for the party conference. She said they will continue to hold such meetings in all the regional headquarters so that more women will occupy key positions in the party at the lower levels. “More women, better politics,” she emphasized.

The National Women’s Leader said they are embarking on a tour in the regions this week to encourage women to come forward and declared their intentions to run for positions in the party. She added that the meetings will be held in Kenema, Bo and Makeni. “This will motivate women to be active in politics in their localities,” she noted.

She also encouraged women to register when the National Electoral Commission will start voter registration in February.

The National Women’s Leader explained that every registered and paid up member in the party is qualify to apply for positions.

National Organising Secretary of PMDC, Tommy Kargbo called on members of the party to register and pay your contributions for them to add their voices on the things that are happening within the party. “Add your voice to where you money is,” he emphasized.

National Youths Leader of PMDC, Samuel P.O. Macaulay encouraged members to collect application forms and apply, so that they will be active members of the party in their communities. He said the lower Level election is key, and that they should go and put structures in place for party tol go to State House come 2018.

Regional Chairman of Western Area, Patrick Simeon said they want to set up the zonal executive first, then constituency, district and regional executives. “We need these structures so that every member will be recognized.”
